Concor sets up Rs 400 Crore logistics park at Vizag
Visakhapatnam: Container trade from Visakhapatnam is set to surge on the back of the inauguration of a multi modal logistics park by Container Corporation of India.
CONCOR achieved a throughput of 2.36 million TEUs (Twenty Feet Equivalent Units) of EXIM traffic and 0.51 million TEUs of domestic traffic, registering a turnover of Rs.4984.53 Crores during the last financial year 2013-14. CONCOR has eight operations Regions spread across the country, one of them, South Central Region is headquartered at Secunderabad.
“We feel that there is a huge untapped potential at Visakhapatnam and hence this MMLP facility. Companies in the power, steel, pharma, aquaculture and agricultural sectors will be benefited significantly by this facility,” V Kalyana Rama, Executive Director of the company said.
This project also provides infrastructure and facilities for hinterland industrial units to base their warehousing. CONCOR has plans to develop many such mega Multi Modal Logistics Park across the country in the near future, he added.
In an effort to improve rail movement, the company is prepared to organize more scheduled trains to meet the needs of trade depending on the demand from time to time. CONCOR is running regular train services to Delhi, Ludhiana, Raipur, Balasore, Nagpur.
Mr Anil Kumar, DRM, East Coast Railway, Waltair, while inaugurating the MMLP, expressed his happiness over the fast pace at which the CONCOR has set up this MMLP and assured all the support from Railways for operating the trains after trade requirement.
Mr Yash Vardhan, Director (Intl. Mktg. & Operations), CONCOR, pointed out that the facility at Visakhapatnam had a Container Freight Station, Public Bonded Warehouse (Open & Covered Warehouse), Private Freight Terminal, Reefer Container Handling Facility, Empty Container Storage facility and Covered Warehouse to the extent of 4 lakh sq.ft.
With pharma exports set to increase, the company is now planning to add temperature controlled warehouse for perishables and Pharma products, complete with security surveillance systems and fire fighting equipment.
Mr Kalyana Rama said the park will be expanded to another 30 acres within the next six months.
Mr G.V.L.Satya Kumar, Deputy Chairman, Visakhapatnam Port Trust, Mr M.S.Reddy, Joint Commissioner of Customs and Mr. G.R. Seshagiri Rao, Senior Manager, CONCOR also participated in the event.
