Proudly Chronicling AP’s growth
It’s been an eventful 20 years since we began our
journey of starting Vizag Industrial Scan, the only industrial fortnightly of the combined state of Andhra Pradesh.
I still vividly remember the naysayers who told us a publication like this would never work and would be out of business in a few months. It’s not so much of pride that our team has proved them wrong but for this journey of seeing Vizag grow from a predominantly PSU dominated region to a city of thriving businesses from eclectic industries.
The Vizag of 2018 is a buzzing destination for companies in the IT, Pharma and Textile zone. VIS has played a significant part in not only witnessing this change but being at the forefront in reporting and often highlighting the city as an ideal destination for investments.
Indeed private sector investment has played a gargantuan role in making this happen.
The objective behind starting VIS was to showcase the city of Vizag as an ideal place for investments for new and upcoming businesses. And we did this without being negative or belittling an institution or person. VIS has always been known for bringing out the good work that is carried out in many of these industries while recognizing the leaders who make these organizations/institutions great. Albeit I must admit we sometimes get rebuked for showing too much good!
In 1998, Vizag’s economy was largely dominated by PSUs – with the likes of Vizag Port Trust, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), Vizag Steel Plant (VSP), Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) and Dredging Corporation of India (DCI). All of them still play a crucial role today employing thousands of people and most have proved to be stellar examples of growth.
Private sector investment was negligible during that period. Back then Hyderabad was touted as the next major hub for business.
True it was Hyderabad did turn out to be a force to reckon with compared to other major metros and was kind of Andhra’s pride for having its very own metropolis.
Today it’s a totally different story. The sun rise state of Andhra Pradesh has nothing to fall back on instead had a significant deficit when the bifurcation took place. The person who profoundly changed Hyderabad’s economic landscape has yet another herculean task of creating not just another city but a world class state wherein each city has its own calling.
AP’s dynamic CM Mr N Chandrababu Naidu has set an aggressive mission of making AP one of the top 3 states by year 2022.
One thing he can take pride in is the entrepreneurial nature of the people of Andhra Pradesh. Thus with an enthusiastic spirit of entrepreneurship and undeterred leadership the sun rise state of Andhra Pradesh will surely achieve greater heights of success and rest assured Vizag Industrial Scan will be at the forefront in highlighting Andhra’s success.
