Vizag could soon get TIDE : MS Rao

Giving a detailed presentation to startups in the city the President and CEO of National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, Mr MS Rao, IAS said that the city of destiny is well poised to have a TIDE center.

Launched earlier in 2008 the Technology Incubation and development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE) scheme’s objective was to strengthen incubation centers in institutions of higher learning and to aggrandize commercial use of technologies developed by them.

TIDE 2.0 was designed and launched in Feb 2019 with some of the major distinct features having a focus on emerging tech such as IOT, AI, Block-chain, Robotics etc., implementation thru academic & research institutions having industry partners and have a societal impact.

The CEO and President of NeGD said that the city of destiny Vizag had a strong case to get a TIDE center. Getting a TIDE centre could significantly help the startup eco-system in this region.

Mr MS Rao was addressing the gathering at the Vizag Industrial Scan’s second edition of the industry-startup connect initiative jointly supported by APIS and NRDC.

Mr Rao further spoke on the recently launched Meity’sstartup hub (MSH) portal which he said intends to act as a national coordination, facilitation and monitoring centre that will integrate all the incubation centres, start-ups and innovation related activities of MeitY. This Mr Rao said would facilitate sharing of resources, best practices, and ideas across the entire innovation and startup eco-system.

Speaking on the national policy on software products 2019 the CEO and President NeGD informed of its mission to nurture 10,000 technology startups including 1000 startups in Tier-II and Tier-III towns, to establish 20 domain specific Indian software product clusters and also to create a talent pool for the software product industry through up skilling of 1 million IT professionals.

He said that the global software industry is estimated to be USD 413 billion and that the contribution of software products in Indian IT-ITES revenue is just USD 7.1 billion.

Mr Rao also spoke on the national programme on AI and centre of excellence for IPR.
