Vizag will be developed into a health hub, says Naidu

Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu has said Visakhapatnam will be developed into a health hub as many super-specialty hospitals are coming up here.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the operations at the OP block of Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), he said the VIMS, located on 100 acres of land in the heart of the city, would be developed into a major super-specialty hospital on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The 1300-bed hospital built in 99 acres of land with an estimated cost of Rs 565 crore has 15 blocks spread over 18 lakh square feet
The Chief Minister further said that the VIMS would render its services not only to the north coastal districts of the state,  but also to the neighbouring Odisha and Chattisgargh.
Health city project
The health city project is coming up in the vicinity of VIMS. Many hospitals had been allocated sites in the health city. The government will take back the land allotted to the hospitals in the health city, if they fail to ground their units in a year, Mr. Naidu said
Earlier in the day, the foundation stone was laid for a 500-bed ESI hospital to be built at a cost of Rs. 700 crore at Sheelanagar in the city.
“The King George Hospital (KGH) here, which has been serving the people from the times of the British, will not be neglected and it will also be developed to meet the health needs of all sections,” Mr. Naidu said.
Union Urban Development Minister Mr. M Venkaiah Naidu said Chief Minister Mr. Chandrababu Naidu was ahead of others in taking advantage of various schemes launched by the NDA government and hoped that Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences would be developed on the lines of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad.
Earlier, at the foundation-stone laying ceremony at Sheelanagar for the ESI hospital, Union Labour Minister Mr. B Dattatreya said that at the request of the Chief Minister, the bed strength at the hospital was being increased from 300 to 500 and the allocation from Rs. 420 crore to Rs. 700 crore.
He said 100-bed ESI hospitals would also be built at Pydibhimavaram in Srikakulam district, Vizianagaram and Kakinada in the State. Central Ministers Bandaru Dattatreya and M Venkaiah Naidu, Ministers Mr. Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Mr. Kamineni Srinivas, Mr. K Atchannaidu, Mr. Ch Ayyanna Patrudu and local officials were present.
