Air Cargo plays key role for Andhra Shrimp farmers

The freighter aircraft which was launched in February 2020 has been playing a key role in transporting shrimp seeds from Vizag.

The Boeing 737-800 freighter aircraft with a total cargo capacity of 18 tonnes was introduced in Vizag under the Krishi Udaan scheme which helps farmers transport agricultural products in a time bound manner.

‘The freighter aircraft has played a key role in helping farmers get their produce sent to domestic destinations in a time bound manner’ said Vizag’s Airport Director, Mr Raj Kishore.

In absence of passenger aircrafts where shrimps were being transported in the belly of the aircraft, the freighter has played an important role in transporting perishable live cargo from the catchment area across various districts of AP. ‘Shrimp farmers and producers would have been at a huge loss if not for the freighter aircraft’ said Mr Kishore.

The SpiceXpress freighter aircraft operates six days a week with 3 days service to Kolkata and 3 days service to Surat. The director informed that certain general cargo and medical essentials are also being transported in the freighter aircraft. It is informed that over 300 metric tonnes of cargo has been transported from the beginning of the freighter service in Feb 20 to April 20.
