In what is being seen as a major achievement, the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone Limited (popularly known as AMTZ) has started manufacturing 2000 testing kits (every day) which shall be supplied across the country.
The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy recently launched the COVID-19 testing kits via a video conference. With the number of Covid-19 cases on a rise in the state of Andhra Pradesh these test kits could certainly come in handy.
As per the special chief secretary to the government of AP, Industries and Commerce Dr RajatBhargava, IAS these kits can help test in 55 minutes and every machine can test upto 20 cases per day.
The government plans to ramp up production of these kits to 25000 kits (per day) going forward.
These test kits are ICMR i.e. Indian council of medical research approved and are being developed with theintegration of different technologies.Among the companies involved in the development of these test kits includeMolbio Diagnostics and Think 3D.
AMTZ established on a 270 Acre zone is a dedicated zone for Medical Device Manufacturing. India overwhelmingly imports its medical devices requirements thus causing a huge stress on the exchequer.
As per industry sources India imports around 75% of its medical devices requirements.
AMTZ envisions to put India on the global map of high end medical equipment production and make health care products affordable and accessible not only for India but for world at large.
