The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), an enterprise under DSIR, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt of India, had invited proposals from innovators under its DSIR grants-in-aid promotional programme.
Financial support was offered for development of Covid-19 technologies in the area of tracking, testing & treatment, covering process scale up, pilot plant studies, validation/authentication of the product etc. The objective was to bridge the gap between the lab scale development and industrial requirement, so that commercial production and marketing of product become successful.
‘We received 65 proposals seeking funding from NRDC of which 16 projects were selected. This is the first time ever that NRDC has funded 16 projects under a single programme’ said NRDC’s CMD Dr H Purushotham speaking to Vizag Industrial Scan.
The CMD further stated that a three member external Technology Expert Committee was formed to carry out due diligence and recommend eligible names for funding.
What is noteworthy is that two institutes from Andhra Pradesh are in these 16 selected.
SRIT Ananthpur qualified for Development of Self Atmospheric Movable Cabin Alternative to PPE while Ramachandra College of Engineering, Eluru qualified for development of High capacity disinfectant spraying machine with auto-retractable hose reel for use in large public spaces.
Dr H Purushotham also highlighted that NRDC has brought out a Compendium of Indian Technologies for combating Covid-19 which has listed about 200 technologies developed by Indian institutions and startups. NRDC has already transferred 9 technologies to startups and MSMEs which are useful in combating Covid-19 in the country.
