The Waltair division of East Coast Railway has witnessed an upsurge in its parcel handling in the first 5 months of the current fiscal.
As per an official release from the railways the division at the end of August-2021, had achieved a record parcel loading traffic of 20,192 tonnes thereby surpassing last year’s traffic (7479 tonnes). This marked a whopping 169% growth over the same period last year.
Similarly during the current financial year, the division earned revenue of Rs 7.74 crores which is 172% more compared to the corresponding period last financial year (Rs 2.83 crores).
The Waltair division has also run 29 Kisan special trains to boost income to the farm sector, by providing hassle-free, safe and speedy transport services of agricultural produce.
The Division has transported 10,379 tonnes of mangoes which is 139% more than last financial year ( 4330 tonnes) earning revenue of Rs 4.61 crores which is also a record of 145% more than last year (Rs1.88 crores).
The Division led by its new Railway Manager Mr Anup Kumar Satpathy has been credited for exceptional planning with special focus on the transportation of essential commodities combined with relentless efforts at field level in achieving the enhanced loading and revenue figures.
The Division has also taken several initiatives for enhancing the parcel traffic like round the clock operation of parcel facility, incentives for parcel booking, parcel management system for online tracking etc.
