The month of June proved to be quite fruitful for VPT’s container terminal, VCTPL. The container terminal, a joint venture between DP World and JM Baxi Group witnessed many record breaking numbers in the month of June 2020 thereby registering many firsts to its credit.
The container terminal recorded the highest throughput ever seen in a month by handling 46307 TEUs. This growth was led by highest exports laden volumes that crossed over 21000 TEUs. Similarly its reefer volumes and agri products exports also recorded highest volumes in a month registering 3424 TEUs and 4962 TEUs respectively.
‘We have increased our market share amongst the East Indian container terminals with 15% share’ said VCTPL’s deputy COO, Mr Anil Narayanan speaking to Vizag Industrial Scan.
The container terminal in fact had crossed the half a million TEU mark in March this year.
VCT is gradually evolving as a regional transshipment hub in the Bay of Bengal with containers from Kolkata, Haldia, Paradip, Kakinada, Chittagong and Yangon getting transshipped here.
It has a well established rail and road connectivity to the hinterland thereby providing smooth access for cargo movement to local hinterland and ICDs at NCR, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Raipur. VCT has also been conferred the AEO status by customs.
