The Visakhapatnam zone of GST has recorded a substantial 102% growth in its revenue collections for the period April to June 2021. The growth was majorly due to the low base effect in Q1 of FY’21.
During the same period last year when the nationwide lockdown was in place the zone had recorded revenues of Rs 2225.27 crores.
However with the scenario being different this fiscal and with the economy reviving the zone has witnessed a substantial increase. In fact what is noteworthy is that the zone’s growth this fiscal has beat the all India revenue growth of 81% for the same period.

Principal Chief Commissioner of Customs & Central Tax, Visakhapatnam Zone, Mr Naresh Penumaka informed Vizag Industrial Scan that the Revenue for Q1 of this fiscal (i.e., April 2021 to June 2021) stood at Rs. 4507.36 crores marking a growth of 102% over the same period last year.
The principal chief commissioner said that targeted action against high valued taxpayers who had not filed their GST returns had resulted in 104 taxpayers filing returns thereby recovering Rs.99.89 crores out of an identified tax payable of 119.26 crores.
Additional measures such as using data analytics had also resulted in recovery of tax of Rs.6.1 crores against a liability of 9.22 crores during the period April – June 2021.
And in order to provide liquidity to the Taxpayers / Exporters, etc., special refund drives were launched at regular intervals to clear the pending refund claims. The emphasis was on clearing the refund claims well before the statutory period of 60 days.

For the period from 01.04.2021 to 29.06.2021, 751 GST refund claims involving amounts of R.s 479 Cr were processed and sanctioned immediately, said Mr Penumaka.
On the Customs side it was informed that a total of Rs.1127.24 Crores was sanctioned towards Export related IGST refund during the year 2020-21. During a special drive to clear IGST refunds, during the period 15.5.2021 to 31.05.2021, 576 IGST refund claims involving amounts of Rs 61 Crores were processed.

Further, 10 Officers of the Department were awarded Certificates of Appreciation for their meritorious service during the year that was. “Health Hero Certificates” were awarded to 12 Central GST Officers in the State of Andhra Pradesh who had selflessly gone beyond the call off duty in performing their functions during the Covid pandemic.
