Despite skyrocketing container freight rates coupled with the advent of the second wave container traffic at Vizag’s container terminal, VCTPL witnessed an upward swing.
The terminal in fact saw some impressive numbers in Q1FY22 by recording the highest EXIM ‘Laden’ volumes of over 34500 TEUs (average) per month for Q1.
Ferro alloys, Aluminium,
Agri products, Seafoods
Similarly VCT also witnessed the highest ever number of rail volumes and number of rakes handled in the month of June ’21 i.e. 71 Rakes with volumes of over 10500 TEUs.
The total number of rakes handled in FY 22-Q1 were 181 rakes with 26710 TEUs as against 155 rakes with 22858 TEUs in FY 21.
‘Albeit the congestion at Colombo, Tanjung, Pelepas, Singapore etc., had initially slowed down the import movement of containers by being held for long periods, container traffic slowly started to bounce back in May and June’ 21’ said Mr Anil Narayanan, COO, VCTPL speaking to Vizag Industrial Scan.
VCT overall handled about 126366 TEUs in Q1FY22.
‘There was an overall throughput growth in Apr ’21 – Jun ’21 of 10% over Apr ’20 – Jun ’20 while EXIM Laden volumes registered growth of 16% for same period comparison’ said Mr Narayanan.
Parcel size (no. of containers handled per vessel) also improved from 1400 TEUs to over 1800 TEUs thereby marking an increase of 30%.
