Work begins on Srikakulum’s new port

Work on the much awaited Mulapeta port (formerly known as Bhavanapadu port) finally got underway when the Chief Minister Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone for the green field port.

Being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 4362 crores the port is expected to be completed in 2 years.

As per sources the Mulapeta Port is being built in an area of 1250 acres with an annual capacity of 23.5 million tonnes. The port will have four loading and unloading berths to handle exports and imports of coal, multipurpose containers and general cargo.

Speaking on the occasion the CM highlighted the potential of this port and how it could uplift economic development in the region. ‘About 35,000 people will get direct employment with the development of Mulapeta port and we can also provide jobs to lakhs of people through ancillary industries’ said the CM. The Chief Minister also laid foundations for Rs 365.81 crore fishing harbour at Budagatlapalem in Etcherla mandal, Rs 176.35 crore Vamsadhara Lift Irrigation Project that would take water to Hiramandalam reservoir from Gotta Barrage and the 852 crore Mahendratanaya offshore Reservoir Project works.

Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram, Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, Animal Husbandry Minister Seediri Appalaraju, Industries and IT Minister Gudivada Amarnath, Water Resources Minister Ambati Rambabu, MLC Duvvada Srinivas, MLAs and top officials participated.
