We stand by our commitment of creating 5 Lakh IT Jobs in Vizag: Minister Lokesh
Andhra Pradesh’s minister for IT, Electronics and Communications, Mr Nara Lokesh has said that the city of destiny is in for exciting times ahead in terms of new investments and job creation.
“Out of the USD 120 billion investments that have been announced over the last 17 months of the new TDP led government taking charge close to 50% of that is going to be coming into the greater economic region of Visakhapatnam” said Mr Lokesh addressing people at the launch of SIFY’s data center.
Citing some of the big investments slated for the city and the greater Visakhapatnam region he said that India’s largest steel plant is coming to this region, India’s single largest FDI investment of google and many other such investments are coming into the greater Visakhapatnam region (VER).
“The Great Visakha Economic region will be a USD 1 trillion economy by 2047” said the IT minister.
Economic Capital.
He reiterated that Vizag will continue to be the economic capital of the state as this is where mega investments will be coming into.
He however said that the people of AP need to understand that these investments take a lot of effort and many peoples hard work goes into getting investments at this scale.
Creation of Jobs
Speaking on the ambitious promise of creating 20 lakh jobs he said that 5 lakh IT jobs will be created for the city of Visakhapatnam alone.
“Lot of people criticized me for giving land to TCS at 99 paisa, some went to court too but because we did that a slew of major companies have come forward to invest in Vizag.
Cognizant, Accenture, Sattva, TCS, Google have all announced their big plans for Visakhapatnam. One bold decision made the difference. One policy made all the difference” asserted Mr Lokesh.
He said that the state government’s job is to make tough decisions and make policies that bring big Cos here and create jobs.
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant
He also highlighted the ongoing efforts being put into by the central and state government for reviving the Vizag steel plant and making it profitable.
“We have been able to get the central government infuse Rs 11000 crs into VSP of which Rs 9000 crores has already been given. In addition the state government is giving Rs 3000 crs to VSP. This has led to VSP operating all its 3 furnaces. We need VSP to be profitable so as to not only contribute to the economy of Vizag but India” said minister Lokesh.
