SMPK’s New Chairman

Mr. Rathendra Raman, who belongs to the 1995 batch of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), has recently taken charge as the new chairman of the Kolkata Port, which has been renamed as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP). Prior to his new role, he served as the Chief Freight Traffic Manager (CFTM) in the South Eastern Railway.

Mr. Raman has been awarded the General Manager’s medal four times and the Railway Minister’s medal in 2006, stated a release. 

He also served as the Chief General Manager of the Eastern Region for the Container Corporation of India, where he achieved several notable accomplishments, including the movement of the first container train to Bangladesh and the container movement to Nepal through Jogbani and Batnaha Rail Terminal.

The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, formerly known as the Kolkata Port, is a riverine port located in Kolkata, India. It is the oldest operating port in India and is the country’s only riverine port that has the capability to handle large ocean-going ships.
