VSR rakes up Aquaculture Industry issues with Centre

Rajya Sabha MP and Chairman of Parliamentary standing committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, Mr Vijayasai Reddy recently sought the centre’s support in safeguarding certain interests of both Indian shrimp exporters and aquaculture farmers.

The Rajya Sabha MP raked up the issue of consignments being rejected by shrimp importers abroad due to certain objections for which he asked the centre to take up with respective authorities and address the concerns of the shrimp exporters from India.

He similarly proposed an insurance scheme for aquaculture farmers which he said was present for agri farmers however not for aquaculture farmers. ‘AP has 1.83 lakh aquaculture farmers operating in our state’ informed Mr Vijayasai Reddy. He thus asked the centre to introduce an insurance scheme for them too.

Speaking on the proposed aquaculture university he informed that the state government needed the centre’s support in adequately setting it up.

‘The State government has provided 200 acres of land for the aquaculture university near Narasuparam in the district of West Godavari.

We however need the support and resources from the union ministry in setting up incubation centres, skill development centres and aqua parks in further growing this industry in the state’ suggested Mr Reddy.
