The Confederation of Indian Industry recently organized Industrial Safety, Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Conference 2024 in Visakhapatnam wherein Mr S Narasimha Sastry, President & Unit Head, Grasim Industries Ltd, Aditya Birla Group highlighted the importance of shifting mindsets from fear to trust.

He emphasized that trust empowers individuals to contribute solutions, forming the foundation of a positive safety culture. He pointed out that industrial accidents often bypass multiple safeguards due to conflicting goals, insufficient resources, or pressures of competitiveness.

‘Compliance and risk-taking must coexist to ensure safety and success in today’s industrial landscape’ opined Dr Sastry. Also speaking at the occasion, Mr. R Ramakrishnan, Executive Director – Visakha Refinery outlined HPCL’s commitment to safety, sustainability, & environmental responsibility.

‘HPCL is proud to lead one of India’s largest brown- field expansion projects, prioritizing not only the safety of our 1,350 employees but also the well-being of nearby communities’ he said. Drawing lessons from major industrial disasters, Mr. Ramakrishnan highlighted HPCL’s stringent safety measures during all project stages, including hazard identification and risk assessment.
