Mr M N V S Prabhakar today assumed charge as the Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

A distinguished technocrat and seasoned steel industry leader, Mr Prabhakar brings over three decades of rich, diverse experience in the Indian steel sector.

Prior to assuming the charge as CMD of RINL, he served as Executive Director of NMDC Steel Limited (NSL), where he successfully led one of the most notable operational and financial turnaround initiatives in recent years.

He began his professional journey with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in 1991 as a Management Trainee (Technical) after completing his Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgy from VRCE, Nagpur.

Later, he acquired an MBA in HR & Marketing. Over the course of his illustrious career, he has risen steadily through key leadership positions in different operational units and functional domains, earning recognition for his deep operational insight, strategic vision, and commitment to excellence.

Joining NSL

Subsequently, he joined NSL as Executive Director in Feb 2025.

At NSL, Mr Prabhakar spearheaded an integrated transformation strategy centered on safety leadership, team alignment, and performance accountability, resulting in rapid improvements in operational efficiency and financial performance.

Under his stewardship, the organization achieved major milestones, including stabilization of plant operations near rated capacity, substantial improvement in techno-economic parameters, enhanced productivity, and reduction in specific energy consumption.

Leading Digital Initiatives

He also played a pivotal role in driving digital initiatives such as RFID-enabled systems, digital gate entry, and Vehicle Tracking Systems (VTS), alongside promoting environmental sustainability, manpower rationalization, and transparent workplace practices.

The appointment of Mr Prabhakar as CMD comes at a crucial juncture for RINL as the company continues its journey towards operational strengthening, financial sustainability, and long-term growth.
