Visakhapatnam’s Lok Sabha member of Parliament Mr Mathukumilli Sribharat has hailed the Central government’s urban challenge fund for selecting GVMC’s 3 key projects.
Just recently GVMC had announced that the National apex committee had given approval for 3 crucial infrastructure projects in the city under the UCF.
The Urban Challenge Fund (UCF) is a Rs 1 lakh crore central assistance initiative by India’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) which aims to drive a nationwide shift from grant-based municipal financing to market-driven, reform-oriented urban development.
The 3 GVMC projects that have been approved under this fund include the Development of Underground Drainage (UGD) System in Madhurawada for Rs 658.61 crores, Development of 24/7 Smart Water Supply System in Madhurawada for Rs 725.18 crores and Rehabilitation & Modernisation of Bulk & Semi-Bulk Water Supply System for Rs 117.24 crores.
“These three infrastructure projects worth Rs. 1,500 crores will stand as a key milestone for the future development of the city”, said Visakhapatnam’s Lok Sabha Member of Parliament in a review meeting held today at the District Collectorate.
Mr Sribharat noted that the Central Government has brought this innovative scheme with the aim of assessing future problems in advance and developing cities in a planned manner, keeping in mind the increasing urbanization and the increasing migration from rural areas to cities.
The Member of Parliament simultaneously laid special emphasis on timely completion of the works.
The main focus is not only on raising funds but also on completing the works on time, opined Mr Sribharat.
He further informed that under the able guidance of Chief Minister Mr Chandrababu Naidu, funds are being raised with a new design for the stalled schemes and are being taken forward.
MP Sribharat reiterated that the central and state governments continue to work in close coordination to make Visakhapatnam a world-class city with modern and efficient infrastructure.
Visakha West MLA Mr Ganababu, Visakha North MLA Mr Vishnu Kumar Raju, Visakha South MLA Mr Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, Gajuwaka MLA Mr Palla Srinivasa Rao, District Collector Mr Abhishek Kishore, IAS GVMC Commissioner Mr Ketan Garg, IAS along with other senior officials participated in the meeting.
