Hindustan Shipyard Limited’s Chairman and Managing Director, Rear Admiral Chandrasekharan Raghuram, VSM (Retd.), today called upon Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Mr S. Abdul Nazeer at Raj Bhavan.
Their discussions centred around strengthening India’s Maritime Self-Reliance and positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leading shipbuilding hub.
The CMD highlighted HSL’s strategic role as India’s only Defence Shipyard on the East Coast in advancing Indigenous Shipbuilding, Ship Repair and Submarine Refit capabilities.
He further outlined the Shipyard’s operational and financial turnaround, along with expansion plans aligned with Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
This includes the proposed establishment of a Greenfield Shipyard in Andhra Pradesh, with Machilipatnam and Dugarajapatnam identified as potential locations.
The project aims to augment India’s shipbuilding capacity and catalyse industrial growth, employment generation and maritime development in the State.
The interaction reaffirmed a shared commitment to advancing India’s Maritime SelfReliance and strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s role in shaping the Nation’s maritime future.
MSME Conclave
Just yesterday Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), in association with the Ministry of Defence and Bharat Chamber of Commerce, organised the State Level MSME Conclave on the theme “India’s Defence Sector: A New Era for MSMEs” at Tirupati on 15 July 2026.
CA E. Kiran, Director (Finance & Commercial), HSL and Chief Guest of the event, highlighted that MSMEs are the backbone of India’s Defence manufacturing ecosystem and key enablers of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
He emphasised that greater integration of MSMEs into Defence supply chains will accelerate Indigenisation, drive Innovation and strengthen India’s Strategic Self-Reliance.
The conclave served as a platform to connect, guide and handhold MSMEs in leveraging emerging opportunities in India’s rapidly expanding Defence and Maritime Sectors, while fostering stronger industry partnerships and enhancing participation in the nation’s defence supply chain.
