India’s premier shipbuilding yard, Hindustan shipyard limited and Kakinada Seaports Limited (KSPL), have inked a landmark Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on shipbuilding operations and developing Shipbuilding capabilities at the KSPL facility in Kakinada.
A MoU has been signed to this effect by Rear Admiral Chandreshekharan Raghuram, VSM, (Retd) C&MD, Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), and Mr K. V. Rao, CMD of KSPL.
As per a release from HSL this MoU is much more than an agreement between two organisations as it brings together a shipyard, a port and their extensive ecosystems in a shared commitment to expand India’s maritime capacity.
The MoU sets a path to utilize and augmentation of existing infrastructure, including slipways and jetty facilities at KSPL for shipbuilding by HSL.
This is of significant news as India and the state of Andhra Pradesh have ambitious shipbuilding plans.
These plans will succeed when Shipyards, Ports, Regulators, Designers, Suppliers, Financiers and local communities build together, said the release from HSL and added that this calls for maximising the assets we already have and creating new opportunities in shipbuilding and allied maritime activities.
At HSL, our mission is to power India’s maritime destiny. This MoU shows how we intend to pursue it: by partnering, collaborating and co-creating with those who share the wider National Vision, and by transforming existing Maritime Infrastructure into growing National Shipbuilding Capacity noted the release from HSL.
