Indian billionaire businessman Mr Sajjan Jindal along with Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister Mr N Chandrababu Naidu today launched three significant projects of the JSW group in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The JSW Rayalaseema Steel Limited along with the JSW Solar captive power project both in Kadapa while the JSW Industrial Park in Vizianagaram which was launched virtually.

Addressing the gathering Mr Jindal said that the JSW group is going to be making a whopping Rs 50,000 crore investment in AP.

This he said will be across various sectors ranging from steel, mining, renewable Energy & industrial park.

“We will create direct employment for 50,000 people,” said Mr Jindal.

The billionaire businessman also heaped praises on the visionary leadership of Mr Naidu and said that the country needs more politicians like him.

“Mr Naidu is a visionary like no other. He thinks 25 years ahead. We need CMs like Mr Naidu who can take the country forward” said the chairman of JSW group.

The flagship project JSW Rayalaseema Integrated Steel Plant at Sunnapurallapalli and Peddadanluru villages in YSR Kadapa district marks a defining milestone in Rayalaseema’s industrial journey.

The commencement of construction transforms a long-pending aspiration into reality and reaffirms the State Government’s commitment to making Rayalaseema a major manufacturing and green industrial hub.

Mr Naidu hailed JSW group’s investments into Andhra Pradesh and urged Mr Jindal to make the Kadapa steel plant bigger than their Bellary steel plant with a capacity of 20 MTPA.

About the Steel Plant

The integrated steel plant will be developed by JSW Andhra Pradesh Steel Limited in two phases over 1,100 acres with a total investment of Rs 16,350 crore.

Phase I will involve an investment of Rs 4,500 crore, while Phase II will bring an additional Rs 11,850 crore, taking the plant’s capacity to 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

Commercial production is targeted to commence by March 2028.The project was originally approved in 2019 and witnessed foundation ceremonies in 2019 and again in 2023.

Infrastructure

Parallelly, the Government has advanced critical external infrastructure required for the project.

Dedicated water supply infrastructure is being taken up, connectivity to NH-67 is under execution, while a 12-kilometre railway link connecting the plant to Muddanuru Railway Station is being pursued through RITES under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.

Designed as a modern Green Steel facility, the plant will adopt scrap-based Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology powered by renewable energy, significantly reducing carbon emissions.

The project is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, promote ancillary industries across Rayalaseema and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s emergence as one of India’s leading steel-producing states.

Background

The project was originally approved in 2019 and witnessed foundation ceremonies in 2019 and again in 2023 However, despite repeated announcements and ceremonial events, the project failed to progress beyond the initial stage.

Following the formation of the present Government in 2024, the project was revived through sustained engagement with JSW, resolution of long-pending issues, timely policy decisions and coordinated action across departments, enabling it to finally enter the execution phase with the commencement of full-scale construction.

The launch of construction on July 3 marks not merely the beginning of a major industrial project, but the dawn of a new era of industrial strength, investment and prosperity for Rayalaseema.

AP’s BJP state President, Mr PVN Madhav credited the economic development of the Rayalaseema region to both leaders i.e. Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi and CM Mr Naidu.

Industrial Park @ Vizianagaram

JSW’s first industrial park in India has been launched in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. This industrial park spans 1,166 acres and is located on NH516, conveniently connected to Visakhapatnam (~50 Kms) and Airport, Port, and Rail Heads.

The park has already obtained Environmental Clearance (up to orange category industries) and can accommodate a wide range of businesses (MSMEs, Large Companies, Manufacturing & Services).

Union Minister of Steel Mr Srinivasa Varma, State ministers Ms Savitha, Mr Gottipati Ravi Kumar, MLA Adinarayana Reddy along with senior officials from the JSW group including Mr Jayant Acharya, Mr Rajaram Pai, Mr Rachuri Kanaka Rao and many others attended the event.
