Minister pulls up officials on delay in fishing harbour works

Mr Kollu Ravindra Minister of State for Mines, has directed the concerned officials to speed up the construction of Gilakaladindi Fishing Harbour, near Machilipatnam.

The minister held a meeting at Gilakaladindi Fishing Harbour and reviewed the progress of the harbour works with the Fisheries Department officials.

On this occasion, the ministers questioned the officials concerned as to why the construction of Gilakaladindi Fishing Harbour was not completed even after two years.

So far only 60 percent of the work has been done, the minister ordered to speed up the work. Mr. KVK Pallarao explained to the minister that AP Maritime Board has sent proposals to extend the harbour construction for another 18 months. 

The minister was informed that the construction was delayed due to technical reasons at the end of the breakwater and the contractor is in the process of preparing and providing some designs from IIT Chennai. 

Besides, he explained to the minister that sand was not available for the construction of buildings in recent times.

Fisheries Department Mr JD Chandrasekhar explained to the minister that two villages have been selected as Climate Resilience Fisherman Villages in the district under the central government scheme, Sorlagondi and Gullalamoda in Nagayalanka mandal. 

It was explained to the minister that the central government will provide funds at the rate of Rs. 2 crore for each village for all kinds of development of those villages. 

The minister said that he will talk to the commissioner to invite tenders for deepsea fishing vessels through the Power Finance Corporation.
