Space Tech for Fisheries

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Dept. of Fisheries, Govt. of India, New Delhi, along with the Fishery Survey of India, Visakhapatnam and Dept. of Fisheries, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh and Space Application Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad recently conducted a seminar on the “Application of space technology in fisheries sector”.

Mr G. Sai Ram Krishna, Scientist–D, SAC, Ahmedabad presented a PPT on activities of ISRO, applications of Transponders on fishing vessels and its advantages through video conferencing.

Later, a live demonstration of the transponder was made by Mr Gajanan Prasad Yadav, Sr. Engineer, M/s Avantel Ltd., Visakhapatnam.

Earlier Mr G.V.A. Prasad, Jr. Fisheries Scientists welcomed the gathering wherein Mr M.N. Harendhira Prasad, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate, Visakhapatnam was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Similarly, Ms G. Vijaya, Joint Director, Dept. of Fisheries, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Visakhapatnam and Dr. U. Sridhar, Principal Scientist, CIFT, Visakhapatnam was the guest of honour.

Around 300 people participated (Physically & Virtually) including officials from DoF, FSI, CMFRI, CIFT, CIFNET, NIFPHATT, MPEDA, State fisheries officials (Sagar Mitra, field assistants and FDO), fishermen, Boat owners, CIFNET students and university students.
