Handles highest cargo volume of 73.75 MT

Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has achieved a significant milestone by recording its highest ever volume of cargo.

VPA handled around 73.75 MTPA of cargo for the fiscal 2022-23 thereby surpassing its previous best of 72.72 MTPA handled during 2019-20.

As per industry sources Coal was the biggest contributor to the overall volumes followed by Iron ore and POL i.e. Petroleum and other liquids.

This is a noteworthy achievement keeping in mind that VPA has been witnessing severe competition from neighbouring ports.

The port claims to have one of the best connectivity with over 200 kms of rail length, over 300 sidings and 60% rail coefficient and over 85 kms of road network within port limits. VPA has been marching ahead towards becoming a landlord port and in fact had in the month of January this year awarded PPP projects worth over Rs 650 crores. LoA’s i.e. Letter of Awards were given for 4 of its berths on PPP mode and were allocated under the asset monetization plan of VPA.

Berths WQ 7&8, EQ 7 and WQ 6 were awarded to private players to come and set up world class infrastructure.
