VPA, Bothra, Vedanta do a 1st for Indian Ports

Berth heaviest vessel carrying single cargo (Mn)

Major port Visakhapatnam Port Authority recently recorded a mega achievement by handling the gigantic MV Huahine, a Newcastlemax size vessel, at Visakhapatnam port on 25th July 2024.

The vessel which was safely berthed at the Vizag General Cargo Berth (VGCB), a BoT berth operated by Vedanta was carrying 199,900 MT of Manganese ore loaded from Gabon, marking it the largest cargo carried by a single vessel to any Indian port.  

The cargo distribution was as follows:

124,500 MT to Vizag 16,000 MT to be transhipped to Dhamra 59,400 MT to be transhipped to Haldia Similarly the Vessel Details were LOA: 300 M, Beam: 50 M, Arrival Draft: 18.46 M. 

The cargo was shipped by M/S Eramet S.A France, one of the largest exporters of manganese ore. The Group boasts of world-class mining deposits and an international industrial presence, producing metals essential to urban infrastructure and the energy transition.

They are also the leading producer of high-grade manganese ore, possess the largest nickel ore mine in Indonesia, and rank as the fourth-largest producer of Titanium globally.

Stating this to be a significant milestone for Visakhapatnam Port and Bothra Shipping Services Pvt Ltd Dr. M.Angamuthu, IAS, VPA Chairperson said VPA is thrilled to support such initiatives and is committed to transforming Vizag port into a hub for bulk cargo transhipment in the future. VPA, Secretary Mr T. Venu Gopal informed of the above achievement.
