Having been be stowed with a vast coastline i.e. the second largest in the country coupled with a well-entrenched spirit of entrepreneurship, Andhra Pradesh’s Exports play a significant role in the country’s overall exports.
With the presence of one major port and 6 minor ports Andhra Pradesh’s total exports share in the country’s export basket stands at 4.81% (as of FY25).
Over the past 3 fiscals the state’s exports share has risen gradually from 4.40% in FY23 to 4.81% in FY25(see table).
Frozen shrimps i.e. Vannamei shrimp continues to dominate exports from Andhra Pradesh with the United States of America being AP’s biggest export market.
However, over dependence on a single market could lead to an adverse impact when protectionism measures are imposed by certain countries.
“AP exporters need to broaden their horizon of exports and diversify into newer markets” said Dr Bandana Sen, ISS, Director General, Commercial Intelligence & Statistics, Government of India speaking to Vizag Industrial Scan on the sidelines of a CII event held in Vizag.
Citing the new tariffs imposed by USA on Indian exports she said it is paramount for MSME exporters to look at newer geographies such as Africa where they can find untapped potential of their exports.
In addition, Dr Bandana also called for exporters to enhance their export basket and explore more in Pharma, Chemicals, Electronics and Agri products.“These sectors hold immense potential for exports from this region” opined the DG.
Similarly, Dr Bandana also emphasised the need for exporters to build trust with buyers in new markets.
Mr Gareth Wynn Owen, Deputy High Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana British Deputy High Commission, Hyderabad during his Inaugural Address highlighted the mutual benefits of the comprehensive India UK FTA, noting that it will not only reduce tariffs but also simplify bureaucratic processes and non-tariff barriers, thus speeding up trade and increasing transparency.
The agreement is expected to facilitate smoother short-term business mobility, address social security payment complexities for Indian workers in the UK, and encourage joint ventures and investments, thereby creating jobs and fostering inclusive growth.
Key sectors identified for growth include clean energy, electric vehicles, electronics, and engineering.
Mr. G Shivkumar, Past Chairman of CII Andhra Pradesh highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s position as the 6th largest exporter in India, and its diverse product base including shrimp, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, and automobiles. Mr. DVS Narayana Raju, Chairman of CII Visakhapatnam also addressed the gathering.
